Multi-read content how to raise broiler chickens for profit

Are you planning to raise broilers to an average weight of 3 kg in 6 weeks on a small budget? This guide is for you. You learn how to reduce costs at every stage of your production; from week 1 to week 6.

Broiler farming is certainly a very lucrative agro-industry. Broilers are poultry meat chickens. Is there a difference?chicken breed; the most popular are Ross, Cobbs and Arbo-Acre; These breeds are characterized by rapid growth, a short harvest period and low feed conversion.

From what’s recentThe main reality of the broiler industry, about 9 billion broilers were produced in 2018; the demand for animal protein remains unmet globally; this requires more broiler production globally.

Many poultry farmers face huge challenges which are investment losses or high production costs resulting in little or no profit at the end of the production cycle.

There are different stages of raising broilers, I will share with you some tips at each stage to reduce production costs and maximize your profits.

Guide to Raising Low Cost Broilers in 6 Weeks

Chicken 6 weeks

These tips are applicable in the following broiler rearing areas:

  • brood
  • lodge
  • Broiler Feeding Program
  • pest control
  • Commercialization and standardization

1. Broiler incubation

The most important stage in broiler production is the incubation period, which usually lasts 3-4 weeks. The first 10 days of a broiler’s life are crucial; you will know if you made a profit in the first 10 days.

Incubation is the management of day-old chicks; it involves all the processes necessary to build a strong, healthy and growing foundation from chicks to market size. This is a very delicate aspect of raising chickens.

broiler chicksHatching chicks

The most important factors in incubation are temperature, light and food. These three factors can increase or decrease your profit; It all depends on your level of understanding. During the first 10 days, the chicks need heat to grow and feed.

Before stocking day-old chicks, the incubator should be heated to 28 degrees Celsius. The temperature stimulates the appetite of the chicks, thus encouraging them to eat. The more chicks eat, the better and grow faster. At low temperatures, low feed intake leads to losses and poor feed efficiency; This marks the beginning of your production cost increase.

Another important factor is light; This factor is very important if you want to harvest your broilers faster. Light stimulates chickens to eat more; It is very necessary, especially in the first 10 days of incubation. Follow this lighting schedule for your chicks and watch them grow faster.

  • Provides 24 hours of light per day for the first 3 days.
  • Provide 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness per day for 6-7 days.
  • Provides 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness every day from 7 to 21 days.
  • Apply natural daylight from 4 weeks of marketing.

What you’re doing is just adjusting their eating habits, because broilers eat when they see the light. The first 72 hours, 3 days, should be spent on food. This allows chicks to gain weight faster and grow healthier, which is a necessary foundation for chicks to thrive. After 4 weeks, the broilers are moved to the grow-out house, where they spend the remaining two weeks.

2. Housing design for broiler rearing

Housing is very important; Chicken coops should serve several purposes, the most important of which is protection from extreme weather conditions and pests. Both of these factors can increase your production costs due to illnesses and infections, so you should take steps to reduce your housing costs.

Orientation of your coop is one of the ways to indirectly reduce the cost of keeping broilers in the coop. Coops should be laid out in an east-west direction; that is, the narrow part should face east and the wider part should face north-south to reduce sunlight entering the feather.

This is important because sunlight entering the pen raises the temperature above tolerable levels, which can lead toThermal stress; This increases your production costs by reducing feed consumption and gaining weight.

Filler material and its management also play an important role in reducing your broiler production costs. How? ‘Or’ What?

The padding material creates comfort in the barn, helping to better utilize feed and gain better weight. However, if you use the wrong bedding, you can treat respiratory illnesses or disorders, increasing your production costs. Examples of bedding materials are wood chips, sawdust, rice bran, etc. ; Among these materials, sawdust and wood shavings are readily available.

Use shavings instead of sawdust; It has larger and finer particles than sawdust. Shaving wood will reduce the risk of respiratory disease and blindness; these are very specific to sawdust.

Another important way to reduce broiler production costs is to use stocking rates. Broilers need space to grow quickly and healthy. Overstocking leads to reduced growth while understocking is more or less a waste of resources as it costs more to build a large barn for a relatively small herd.

You need a profitable stocking rate for your broilers. The recommended stocking density for broiler chickens from day old until slaughter is 0.28 m2/head; Use this inventory ratio to design your pens to manage costs and reduce costs.

3. Broiler Feeding Instructions

Feed accounts for the lion’s share of the total cost of production, so great importance must be given to the feed aspect of broiler production. You must give the chicks medicine for the first 3 days; serve the grill wellchicken feedwith good quantity and quality to improve feed efficiency.

Broiler farmers feed their chickens two types of feed; starter broiler diets and finisher broiler diets. The starter diet was fed for the first 4 weeks, while the broodstock were used from 4 weeks up to commercial size. Indeed, your chicken will be huge but at a high cost. Your chickens may even suffer from bone disorders due to heavy weight gain, reducing their market value or even dying.

To reduce feed costs without affecting the market weight of your chickens, you can include the ration in your feed schedule. Introduce the Adult diet into your eating plan to reduce feeding costs and maintain acceptable weight gain.

Diets start up to 3 weeks, growers up to 4 weeks and continue to breeders from 4 weeks until harvest. With this feeding program, you can reduce your feeding costs and achieve a marketable weight of 3 kg or more.

Another way to reduce excess power is to use precision power. This method is economical; it simply means giving at least the minimum amount of feed the chickens will eat at any given time. Feed chickens 55g/chick per day and increase feed by 10g per week until harvest. You will have a good result.

4. Pest and disease control in broiler production

Pests are often the cause of damage due to high production costs; In addition to feed, you can significantly reduce your production costs by preventing these diseases and pests. Do not hesitate to ask the hatchery to vaccinate your chicks before leaving the hatchery. It is very important to avoid any further problems with the bird.

In addition to vaccination, you can useAyurvedic medicine for chickensTo prevent and control various poultry diseases, strengthen the immune system of broilers and significantly improve the taste and quality of their meat. In addition, change the litter regularly to prevent diseases such ascoccidiosisand strictbiosecurity measures. These are inexpensive ways to reduce drug costs for broilers.

5. Broiler marketing and standardization

Broiler marketing should start in week 5. If you are still feeding your chickens in week 7, you will be lost. To accelerate your sales, start marketing as soon as possible.

In terms of sales standards, it is best to sell by the kilogram; with this you can totally earn what you worked for at the end of the production.

Broiler farming is a very lucrative business where you can earn a lot of money in a relatively short time. Normally, broilers are reared for 6 weeks reaching an average live weight of over 2.5 kg following the correct production process.
