Have you ever seen a baby turkey gobble? Neither had I until Joe and Suzy Conyers (Conyers Outdoors) shared this video with me. Turkeys never cease to amaze me and this example is no exception. Listen to these 3 week old poults try their best to belt out a gobble. Simply amazing.

Joe tells me that he and his wife have been raising turkeys for over 10 years. He says that they’ve also had poults that will strut as early as 3 days old. The Conyers raise turkeys for food, they use some for decoy materials and others are kept as pets. “We learn a ton of info from raising turkeys and it’s a lot of fun too. It’s the next step for many in turkey hunting knowledge.” says Joe Conyers.

Turkeys are GIANT birds that live in North America. Did you know that Benjamin Franklin wanted the Turkey to be the National Bird of the United States? It really is an impressive bird – wild turkeys get up to around 30 pounds. That’s probably why they are associated with family feasts in America. But how much do you know about the turkey?

For instance, did you know that turkeys can fly? Wild Turkeys, that is. Domesticated turkeys have gotten too big to fly around. But they can still run very fast!

And what are all those complicated structures on a turkey’s head? Wattle, carbuncle, snood, beard? Watch our video and find out!

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Socratica Kids out there!
