As you know, the male puzzle is used forcut curveand other fun irregular shapes. What if we cut straight lines? You usually use a circular or table saw, but what if you only have one jigsaw?

In this short article, I will show youhow to use a quizcut a straight line and things to watch out for. I’ll tell you which blade to use for best results and what mistakes to avoid when cutting straight lines.

Which compound phrase is used to cut a line segment?

An old man and I mean as old as a 40 year old jigsaw will not suffice. Why? Because it wasn’t until 1990 that manufacturers introduced guide bearings to consumer puzzles.

Without this important feature, you wouldn’t be able to cut a straight line. It acts as a second fulcrum for the blade which does not allow much lateral movement. As simple as that.

So if you still have your old puzzle, buy a new one. There are so many choices for every budget that there’s no reason not to. See my buying guide atBest jigsaws for all budgets. Just be careful to get one with a bearing that has a groove in the middle for the blade to fit in, not a flat groove.

Which jigsaw to use?

The short answer is good quality blades. The long is that it mainly depends on the project and the type (hardness) of the wood you are cutting. The material that composes them and the TPI play an important role here as well as the size/width.

Bimetal or tungsten carbide blades are used to cut the hardest materials and are often the most expensive but also the most durable. Wider blades are what you need to use when cutting a straight line.

They tend to be stiffer and if you want a straight, smooth cut, choose blades with a higher TPI (more teeth). The thickness of the material being cut is also important, so choose a blade that is long enough to get the job done.

Bosch has a wide selection of blades for this purpose and you can check out the T101BF blade on Amazon.this.

Things You’ll Need to Cut a Straight Line

The first step is to assemble all the tools needed for the job. You will need a marker (pencil or chalk), ruler, square ruler and ruler to cut perfectly straight lines, clamps to hold the wooden board in place, and last but not least a jigsaw and a jigsaw with a good quality blade.

I highly recommend using clamps as they ensure your wood pieces stay in place. When you cut with a jigsaw, the wood can shift, resulting in uneven cuts.

Step by step process

#1. Mark the wood

Whether you’re an expert or a novice, marking wood for cuts is the way to go. This way you make sure you get accurate results. So before you start cutting mark the piece of wood with a square and for long straight cuts use a ruler and pencil.

You can mark it randomly (leave a space in between) but to start I recommend marking the entire line to make cutting easier. Or you can attach a combination square, ruler or any guide to the piece and guide the shoe with it.

#2. A few words about cutting the wood

Now is the time to cut back. Place your jigsaw on the workpiece. Saw nails should be marked. Turn on the jigsaw and start moving it forward in a straight line.

This will help you cut a nice, precise line. Don’t put extra pressure on the saw and keep pace with the jigsaw process.

Try to keep the jigsaw blade straight. Some puzzles have built-in lasers to help you out, but the more you do, the more experience you gain and the easier it will be to cut a straight line. Go slowly and don’t force it.

You can always sharpen it on adesktop belt sanderthen if necessary.

Cutting long pieces can be tricky, so my advice for long cuts is to use a table/circular saw or if you don’t have one, get a slice from the store.

That’s it. Now you know how to cut a line with a jigsaw. It’s quite simple, isn’t it? In a brief recap, you will:

  1. Have a good jigsaw with guide bearing
  2. Choose a quality blade that is wide, rigid and suitable for the material to be cut
  3. Wood markings
  4. Follow the beacons and don’t force the puzzle
  5. Don’t forget safety devices like earplugs and
  6. Protective glasses

Above all, be aware of your surroundings so that you do not injure yourself or others with sawdust or flying metal when cutting thicker materials. Monitor the position of the jigsaw blade relative to its surroundings for more accurate cuts.

And don’t forget to clean up messes from using a tool like this before they happen by always having plenty of mops on hand.

I hope these simple but useful tips will make working with power tools easier for future projects! Happy carpentry! Don’t forget to pin it to your woodworking tips board, thanks!

Popular questions about how to make a straight cut with a jigsaw

how to make a straight cut with a jigsaw?

To do a short straight cut with a jigsaw, simply lay down a cutting line, start the jigsaw and follow it to the end. A cross cut is a cut made across the grain of the wood.

Can you cut straight with a jigsaw?

The jigsaw can be used to make both straight and curved cuts in a wide variety of materials, including wood, particleboard, plywood, plastic, metal, even ceramic tile. It’s also safe and easy to use, which is why it’s often the very first power saw a new DIYer buys.

How do you make a jigsaw cut a straight line?

Why does my jig saw not cut straight?

Your jigsaw may not be cutting straight because it’s outdated, lacking guide bearings necessary for straight cuts. Components such as blade clamps and guide bearings can also get damaged or worn. It’s also possible that human error is to blame, and you need a better straight edge or technique.

Why is my jigsaw cutting at an angle?

This happens most frequently when you’re cutting curves or trying to force the saw to move through the material faster than it wants to go. Slowing down and “steering” the saw, rather than forcing it onward as fast as it will go, will almost always yield a cut at a more consistent angle to the surface of the material.

How do you cut a curve with a jigsaw?

Can a jigsaw cut a 2×4?

The secret to doing straight cuts in 2×4 lumber is to guide the jigsaw steadily, in one go. As long as the pace is slow and consistent, you will be fine by allowing the blade to do the work of cutting for you – keep the focus on following the cutting line as you control the speed and pace of the cut.

How do you use a jigsaw for beginners?

What is the best saw to cut a straight line?

portable circular saw
Despite its name, the portable circular saw (or any circular saw, for that matter) cuts only straight lines. The name actually refers to the shape of its blade.

How do you stop a jigsaw blade from bending?

thick. Jigsaw blades tend to bend when cutting curves in thicker boards, leaving a beveled edge rather than a square one. To keep the cut square, use a sharp blade and avoid forcing the saw through the cut.

How do you adjust a jigsaw?

What is the orbital setting on a jigsaw?

If the jigsaw has an orbital setting, it makes the blade follow a circular movement which enables you to saw faster in a straight line. More orbital action gives faster sawing. The less orbital action you use, the more accurate your cut.

How do you cut a perfect curve?

How do you do a plunge cut with a jigsaw?

Can I use a jigsaw instead of a circular saw?

Although a jigsaw can be used for most of the tasks that a circular saw can perform, including straight cuts and cuts on a tilt, the jigsaw uses that really take advantage of the tool’s qualities are jobs such as kitchen fitting and joinery, with their frequent need for complex cuts.

A jig saw provides a fast, safe way to cut plywood paneling. The catch: It’s nearly impossible to keep the narrow blade cutting straight when sawing the thin sheets. The solution is to clamp a pair of straight-edge boards in place to serve as a saw guide.

Place the first guide board on the paneling parallel with the cut line. Hold the base plate, or shoe, of the saw against the board to be sure the blade is lined up with the line. Then remove the saw blade, place the tool against the first guide and position the second guide tightly against the opposite edge of the shoe before clamping it down. Repeat this procedure at the other end of the guides to create a perfect-width channel. Then reinstall the blade and slowly push the saw through the channel for a straight cut.
