how many amps

Contents

how many amps

High energy consumption is something washing machines are known for, however, there are several factors that contribute to a washing machine’s high wattage or energy consumption.

However, this power consumption varies depending on the washing machine, laundry load and usage.

For example, an LG washing machine might use 5 amps and a Bosch washing machine might use 2300 watts. A typical washing machine will use up to 500 watts for thirty minutes of washing and on average the washing machine will use 2200 watts and 10 amps of electricity.

Does the washing machine consume a lot of electricity?

Owning a washing machine can cause a lot of electricity. However, the use of electricity also depends on the amount of laundry.

In addition, your washing machine can consume an average of 350 to 500 watts of electricity.Electricity consumption increases if you do 3 or 4 washes a week and turn on the heating of the washing machine.

How much does an electric washing machine cost?

Electric washing can be slightly more expensive because electric washing uses a lot of electricity and energy.

Additionally, electric washing is known to use pressure to clean all stains and stains on clothes, and more,Electric washing can cost an average of fifty to one hundred and sixty dollars an hour.

How to calculate the electricity consumption of a washing machine?

It is very important that you know how to calculate the electricity consumption of your washing machine, because you may need it at any time in the future.

Find all variables:

First, you need to make sure you know all of the necessary variables when calculating your washing machine’s power consumption.

Correct formula:

You must keep in mind the exact formula kWh = Capacity x operating hours / 1000. However, to find the monthly and annual consumption, you just need to multiply 30 and 365 by the same formula.

Thanks to this formula, you can easily know the electricity consumption of your washing machine.

See user manual:

If you find it difficult to determine the “capacity” in the formula, kWh = Capacity x operating hours / 1000, you can simply consult the manual of your washing machine because the power is mentioned there.

Factors affecting the energy consumption of washing machines

Your washing machine can consume a lot of energy. In addition, there are many things that sometimes highlight the energy consumption of a washing machine.

Overheated:

One of the factors that most affects the energy consumption of a washing machine is overheating.

Moreover, when you leave the washing machine to heat up on its own, it will consume 90% of the energy.

How to use the dryer:

When someone is using the dryer to dry clothes that have just been washed, you are probably letting the washing machine consume more energy than usual, which will eventually lead to increased energy consumption.

Preload and load on:

Another factor affecting the energy consumption of a washing machine is related to the structure of the washing machine.

Also, depending on the washing machine model, i.e. whether it is front-loading or top-loading, the energy consumption will be affected.

Few people are aware of this, but even if you do not actively use the washing machine, energy consumption still occurs is another factor that causes the washing machine to consume energy.

Lack of use of solar energy:

One of the most common mistakes people make when using a washing machine is not switching to solar power. A total misunderstanding of solar energy can eventually lead to excessive energy consumption.

How to reduce the electricity consumption of a washing machine?

Washing machines can be very expensive and sometimes it can be a bit of a hassle. However, you must be strategic enough to reduce your energy consumption with some effective tips that will allow you to wash your clothes more economically.

Wash strategically:

You don’t need to wash small batches of clothes, just wait for the dirty clothes to pile up before putting the big batch in the washing machine.

This will help reduce energy consumption because when you wash clothes in small quantities, no matter how many, the electricity consumption remains the same for every time you wash even a small amount of clothes.

Use the right amount of detergent:

It is not imperative to soak your clothes in a lot of detergent instead of a little detergent which helps a lot. When you use a lot of detergent, it creates a lot of suds that require a lot of water and electricity to wash off, which will eventually cause energy consumption to skyrocket.

Disable power consumption:

When the washing machine is not in use, the washing machine should be turned off completely, unless the washing machine continues to consume electricity and cause excessive energy consumption.

Use of the solar system:

Another more efficient way to reduce electricity consumption is to use solar energy which will be very cost effective.

Do not use the dryer:

If it is not necessary to dry clothes in the washing machine, avoid using the dryer.

Moreover, you can only dry your clothes in direct sunlight and can only use the dryer when it is raining, which will ultimately save you money.

Use cold water:

You can start using cold water instead of hot or lukewarm water in your washing machine because on the one hand, using cold water can reduce energy consumption, on the other hand, it will clean clothes more efficiently.

Pre-Treat Stains:

If you only depend on the washing machine to clean all the stains on your clothes, it will take you more than one or two washes and therefore, it will lead to more energy consumption.

Instead, soak clothes that have stains in water or a stain remover for 30 minutes before putting them in the washing machine.

How does an energy saving washing machine work?

Energy-efficient washing machines work by reducing energy and electricity consumption.

Outraged, energy efficient washing machines operate using less energy, less water and less detergent.

Plus, they also operate using only 50% less water, helping to reduce excessive energy consumption.

In this video I use a clamp on amp meter and a watt meter to determine “surge” watts and running watts of my washing machine.

This is needed so that I can determine how to size what generator or inverter that I would need to use this during a power outage.

The surge of this washing machine was about 1000 watts, and the running watts varied from about 700 down to 120.

The entire wash cycle used 120 watts. So knowing this information, I would need an inverter rated for 1000 watts , I would recommend a pure sine wave inverter because the washing machine has motors.

To determine the battery just for this, I would need a minimum of a 20 amp hour 12 volt battery. (20ax12v=240 watts then /2 =120 watts to only drain battery 50 % of capacity.

Because of the Peukert effect (aka, the faster a battery is drained, the less overall amperage is available, I would recommend a higher amperage battery.

In a future video I will bring a deep cycle battery and inverter into the house to run the actual test.
