LE 33ft 240 LED String Lights – Check Price on Amazon

Although the string lights are solid on the wall, they can damage the delicate paint of your precious wall. The walls will show nail holes every time you change the position of the string lights. Also, drilling holes for the rivets is tedious and time-consuming.

Use these alternatives to safely hang string lights on your wall in a fraction of the time using nails:

  • Brick garland clip

If you love a clean finish around walls and string lights, these brick string light clips are your best bet. These handy clips are designed with clips to clip onto tiles and hooks to hold string lights in place.

The tile clip securely holds the string lights on the wall without causing damage. Best of all, you don’t have to worry about sticky residue on the wall..This means less hassle with a cleaner string light installation.

  • Ribbon

While tapes come in a variety of styles and sizes, double-sided tape is best for hanging string lights on a wall. Not only is it strong and durable, but its adhesive is very strong and can hold the weight of most string lights.

Another big advantage of clear tape is that it can stick to wet surfaces. This makes it an option for hanging string lights on walls indoors and outdoors without using nails. Light up wet spaces like kitchens, saunas, bathrooms, patios and floors with beautiful string lights using tape.

The best clear tape for hanging string lights on exterior walls with UV protection from the sun. This allows it to last a long time without yellowing or breaking.

  • Adhesive clips and hooks

Similar to adhesive tape, the adhesive clip and backing are made with a layer of glue to stick to the wall. Instead of holding garlands with adhesive, they have clips or hooks.

When hanging string lights on the wall with clips and adhesive hooks, be sure to follow the load limit. Clamps and hooks can only support a specific maximum weight without being detached from the wall. Fortunately, most string lights are lightweight and can be held in place with clips and adhesive hooks.

  • Gorilla Clear Glue or Hot Glue Gun

You can hang fairy lights on the wall for a while using Gorilla Glue or a hot glue gun. Gorilla Glue bonds easily to many wall materials including stone, ceramic, brick, glass, concrete, foam, wood and glass. Plus, it’s 100% waterproof, so you can use it to hang string lights on damp interior walls and exterior walls. Choose a clear type so that the string lights can be seen clearly from all angles.

Plus, the hot glue gun provides a quick and easy way to hang string lights without damaging the wall. The high temperature glue gun is suitable for use on a variety of walls, including brick, ceramic and stone, among others.

How do you attach the lights to the wall?

When installing your garlands on the wall, you will attach different wires depending on the type of accessory you choose.

The tile clip is suitable for attaching the string lights to brick, stone, foam, plaster and wood walls. You install them by clipping them to the wall along the line you are attaching the string lights to, then sliding the string lights onto the hook that protrudes from the vertical side of the clamp.

Since tile clamps are more visible and sturdier than other options, using a clamp after each wall placement will create an even finish. It is best to fix the policeman in place opposite the adjacent hooks facing in opposite directions so that the string lights can be securely attached to the wall.

If you’re using tape to hang the garlands on the wall, just tape the strings to the wall instead of the bulbs. You will need to glue different pieces of tape between the individual bulbs depending on the design and weight of the wires for a solid assembly. Keep the rooms uniform, and remember to choose clear, wall-safe tape if your walls aren’t white for an even finish.

When using adhesive clips or hooks, stick them evenly on the wall first, then thread the lights through the protruding hooks or clips. If you choose to hang the string lights with Gorilla Glue or a hot glue gun, follow these simple steps:

  • Clean the wall surface with a broom, broom or rag to remove all dirt and debris
  • Wipe the wall with a damp sponge to remove oil and dust
  • Apply a thin, even coat of high-temperature hot glue or Gorilla glue along the line where you want to hang your string lights
  • Press the string into the glue and hold it there until the glue dries. You can use pliers to hold the piece of string in place until the glue is completely dry.

Can I use tape to hang garlands?

Yes, you can use tape to hang string lights on the wall. The best choice of tape for attaching durable and beautiful string lights to the wall is clear double-sided tape like Gorilla Tape. Even better, it bonds firmly to a variety of wall materials such as concrete, brick, stone, mortar, wood, ceramic and glass.

There are also different brands of temporary and permanent string lights for indoor and outdoor use. Temporary mounting tape is ideal for hanging string lights as Christmas lights for a period of time, after which you take them down. If you want to install the garlands fixed to the wall, you can use the exterior fixing tape.

You can also use tape to hang string lights on the wall, but that doesn’t provide a smooth, cohesive finish. In addition, the adhesive tape adheres better to smooth surfaces than to rough walls.

Masking tape provides an easy and affordable way to hang string lights on a wall, but you may need to reapply paint after removing the light from the painted wall.

Do LED light strips damage the wall?

LED strip lights rarely damage walls, but it depends on several factors. They are unlikely to damage walls, but they can damage wall coverings such as wallpaper and paints. It depends on the condition and strength of the wall paint or wallpaper, the strength of the adhesive used on the strips, the climate of the area and how long the strips have been on the wall.

Most LED strips have 3M glue on the back. This adhesive is the benchmark for adhesive strength and durability. However, its strength and longevity degrade over time and in hot, humid climates, making it poorly adherent to oiled and shiny walls.

Some homeowners and contractors use foam tape, hot glue, Gorilla Glue, Gorilla tape, or double-sided tape to attach the strip light to the wall.

LED strips peel relatively easily and safely from plastic, ceramic, glass, glass and wood walls. However, they can damage the delicate layers of bare drywall, painted walls, and wallpapered walls.

LED strips are more likely to be extinguished by walls that are long gone. Similarly, new paint takes approximately 4 weeks to dry completely and applying LED strip lights before this time will cause the strips of paint to peel off. The paint is applied to the wall before cleaning and the primer is also prone to chipping with the LED light strips.

Final Thoughts

Selectionbest fairy lights for crown moldingIt’s also an effective and inexpensive way to spruce up your home. Remember to choose an appropriate way to attach the string lights to the wall for a nice and cohesive finish.

Hanging string lights or rope lights on brick usually involves a drill, hot glue, or double sided tape which doesn’t stick well. I decided to try hanging lights using Sugru, a moldable glue that dries in 24 hrs, to hold a strand of rope lights on the brick on my front porch! I love how this DIY porch makeover for fall turned out!

I also found some worn out IKEA outdoor chairs from a salvage shop and refinished them with new pieces of cedar, stain, and a fresh coat of paint on the metal.

Watch how it all came together!
