Be sure to review Table 1 below for a detailed table of scrap copper wire prices for each grade.

Some other reasons, scrap copper wire is sold at a high price because it can be recycled and reused without changing the quality of the metal. In fact, approximately 80% of the copper used today is recycled and reused.

You need to know exactly what differentiates copper scrap grades, as well as which grades offer the best overall value.

3. Weigh your scrap copper before calling the scrapyard. Knowing your weight is very important. Having all your ducks in a row gives you strength, so you’ll know ahead of time if you should trust the Scrapyard you’re trading.

If the junkyard lists different weights than you already know, you can decide to negotiate with them or go broke.

Old-Fashioned Scrap Tricks: Some scrap yards give you a higher price per pound, but you cut the weight. Be careful!

4. Call every scrap yard in your area for the best price. Call ahead, be sure to describe the correct type and weight of scrap copper wire. How many light ceiling books do you have?

5. When you get to the junkyard, you’ll have more room to negotiate because you’ve already stowed the heaviest loads. Most scrap yards will pay you more if you haul a minimum of 100 lbs.

6 – Finally, reload and repeat!
