Multi-read content how to get wax off shirt

Who doesn’t like acandlemoment? Flickering wick candles have an amazing ability to regulate the mood, whether they provide soft light during a dinner party or reward you with vibrations on a chilly evening by R.

three lit candles from public goodsShop: Lavender

That is, until the wax from your scented candle starts dripping onto your tablecloth or you accidentally blow out melted bits while dimming the flame. It can be a devastating sight: watching your candle’s hot (read: untouchable) liquid ooze and harden rapidly as you simultaneously try to deal with the fact that your favorite soft shirt or fabric candle could be permanently ruined. Watching my clothes get trampled by a pile of wax is not a good feeling.

However, all is not lost. We share some stain removal tips on how to remove wax stains from clothes and – good news! – it’s not as difficult as you think. Read on, take action with our step-by-step guide, and then rejoice.

How to remove wax from clothes: Shaving method

three lit candles from public goods, credit card, scraper tool

There are various effective techniques you can use to remove wax from fabrics. One of them involves a good old-fashioned shave.

But before doing any work, let the candle wax dry and harden completely. It is a type of task where the expectation is important. You want it to be as solid as possible before attacking.

Now here are the steps to remove candle wax from your clothes by scraping:

  1. When the candle wax has dried and is completely hard, lightly brush away the lump it has become. This will only leave you with a few residues.
  2. Grasp an object with a hard edge, such as the edge of a credit card or a dull knife.
  3. Gently but firmly scrape off what remains on the wax stain. To avoid damage to the garment or fabric, do not press too hard, especially if you are dealing with more delicate fabrics.

If any wax stains remain, move on to the next technique.

How to remove wax from clothes: hot iron

three candles, hairdryer, clothing iron

There may be stubborn residue after scraping most of the wax from your clothes.

Do not despair. Instead, think hot! Yes, removing candle wax from clothes can also be done with heat through a simple process.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Iron or hair dryer
  • Brown paper bag or
  • fabric
  • To erase
  • Washing powder

Here’s how to remove candle wax from clothes using an iron:

  1. Set the iron to low and let it heat up. If you don’t have or are working with ultra-thin clothes or other fabrics, get a hair dryer instead.
  2. Place your clothes or tablecloth between two absorbent paper towels or a brown paper bag. If your fabric is very thin (like silk or wool), place a cloth over the paper on the side you’ll be ironing (don’t do this if you’re using a hair dryer).
  3. Gently press the cloth or paper bag to penetrate the wax or blow heat directly onto the area. Rub the fabric after each transfer until there is no wax left to transfer.
  4. Oil may remain on your clothes or fabrics. In this case, take a stain remover and apply it to the skin to be treated.
  5. Wash your clothes with regular detergent.

3 alternative ways to remove wax from clothes

If you still have wax residue after trying two other stain removal methods, or if you are unable to use the thermal process, there are other ways to remove the residue from the fabric. Let’s take a look at three of them.

1. Vegetable oil

First, remove the large wax if present. Then, soak the stain thoroughly with vegetable oil. Pat the stain lightly with a paper towel, then wash with your usual detergent.

2. Rinse with boiling water

Again, remove large amounts of candle wax from the fabric before you begin.

Next, lay out your clothes or tablecloth over a large mixing bowl, making sure the stain is directly above the bowl. Use a rubber band to secure the fabric. Gently pour boiling water over the stain and watch it dissolve.

Repeat until all wax is gone, then wash as usual.

3. Carpet washing machine

After removing excess candle wax, gently pour a little carpet cleaner onto the stain and rub withToothbrush. Absorb water with a paper towel and wash as usual.

Wax on, wax off

Watching hot wax from a candle spill onto your table or favorite piece of clothing can be a truly daunting sight, but the removal methods we outline here will help keep your fabrics looking like new. Start by scraping and switch to heat if the stains persist.

If all else fails, try the other methods listed. And if you’re unlucky enough to get wax on the carpet, use a hair dryer to heat the stain, then blot the wax off with a paper towel.

Remember to always keep in mind the document you are dealing with. Try gentler methods on more delicate fabrics, such as silk or wool, and choose more durable fabrics, such as denim. You get it!

Step 1: Scrape the wax

Start by using a dull knife or spoon to remove as much wax as possible.

Step 2: Blot with rubbing alcohol

Blot the area with rubbing alcohol, or your favorite solvent cleaner. Finish by washing according to fabric label instructions.

Step 3: Cover with towel and iron

Cover the area with a kitchen towel, then place an iron set on low heat on top. The towel will absorb the wax.

Tip

A hair dryer can be used if an iron is not available.
