Step 1) IDENTIFICATION: 0:24

Step 2) INSPECTION: 2:22

Step 3) CONTROL: 2:54

Step 4) PREVENTION: 6:16

***

The first step in Roach Control is IDENTIFICATION.

There are a lot of different species that you may encounter. There is the American, the German, the Smokey Brown, the Brown Banded, the Asian, and the Oriental. The first thing you want to look at is the visual characteristics. We want to look at the body size; we want to look at the different types of markings that may be on the body. Also we want to take a look at the harborage areas. Are they harboring indoors? Or are they harboring outdoors?

One thing that all these roaches have in common is that they need food, shelter and moisture. The best part about it is if you follow the Solutions four step process, you will eliminate all of your roach problems.

The second step in Roach Control is INSPECTION.

Let’s start on the inside of the house — the kitchen and the bathrooms. Inside the cabinetry, we want to look for droppings, smear marks, or even just activity itself. Up underneath the kitchen sink, where the plumbing penetrates the wall, is there a crack there? If so, we need to address it. Moving on to the outside, check around the perimeter of the house and the flower bed areas. Also, is there plumbing that penetrates the exterior wall? If so, check and see if there is a crack around there and we will need to address it. Around the windows or doors, are there cracks? Those will need to be addressed.

The third step of Roach control is CONTROL.

Let’s start on the inside, in the kitchen area. Make sure that you clean the countertops thoroughly. Pay attention to that stove top as well. Sweep up any crumbs that are on the floor. If you have a dog or a cat, and you feed them in the kitchen, make sure that food gets picked up each day. Also make sure that you take your garbage out.

The second part of the control process is the treatment. We will want to use a gel bait, such as Apex gel. The purpose of using this gel is to allow the cockroaches to feed on it, and then they go back into the nest areas, defecate, and the nymph stages actually feed on their feces, creating a domino effect that will wipe out the entire colony.

Gentrol Point Source is a plastic disc that has a cotton pad and an ampule. You crush the ampule, the liquid wicks into the cotton pad, you place the disc inside the cabinetry on the shelf. What happens is, the nymph stage of the cockroaches are exposed to the insect growth regulator, the gentrol. When they are exposed to it they are actually genetically deformed so they can’t reproduce giving you the long term control that you are looking for.

About ten to fourteen days later, you will want to apply a product called Novacide. The purpose of using the Novacide is to catch any of those stragglers that may not have been exposed to earlier applications of pesticide.

You want to make sure that you use a high concentrated product such as Reclaim I/T. You can apply this product as a perimeter application, and you will want to spray two feet up the wall and two feet out from the perimeter. Also, you can use it around windows and doors, if needed.

There is also a dust. It’s called D-Fense Dust. You can use this on brick veneer homes in the weep holes down at the bottom. You can use it in the attic, as well.

The fourth step of roach control is PREVENTION.

There are a lot of things that homeowners can do to help prevent re-infestations. Make sure you take that garbage out frequently. You don’t want trash sitting around for long periods of time. Check you sink. Do you leave dishes in the sink overnight? Do you dry the sink of all the moisture? All of these things will help you prevent future infestations.

SUMMARY:

-Infestations usually start in the kitchen, especially in those dark hard-to-clean spaces behind and under cabinets and appliances.

-Try tucking bay leaves or leaving a clump in those hard-to-clean places. This method may take a lot of bay leaves and patience, but it’s a nice natural way to send roaches packing.

-You can use garlic- or onion powder, and sprinkle it in and around their favorite hangout spots.

-The lemon juice will effectively repel these pests, and your kitchen will smell amazing too!

-Just fill a medium-sized spray bottle with mostly vinegar, and add enough drops of peppermint essential oil so that you can smell it. Spray your kitchen and bathroom.

-Neem oil keeps away a lot of insects and pests because it contains a certain chemical that’s poisonous to them.

-Cockroaches and similar pests breathe through the pores of their shells and skin, so when they start crawling around in this soap, the borax will get the job done.

-Put some fresh catnip leaves in a sachet – you know, those little sheer drawstring bags usually used for steeping tea – or other porous bag. Cockroaches can’t stand it.

-Once you’ve put the traps together, place them in the spots where you think the roaches are coming from, like nice dark places for them to look for food and water.

-The sweet sugary smell attracts roaches, so they eat the powder mixture. Once they take a drink of water, it reacts with the baking soda, and, well, let’s just say the roaches get a bad case of bubble guts.

-Cut a sizable strip of duct tape off the roll, maybe about the length of your forearm. Put the strip sticky-side-up, and fold down each end so that it’s easy to pick up and dispose of later on. You’ll also need a bait.

-The cockroaches will climb in to go after the bait, but they won’t be able to climb back up the slippery surface to escape.

-Roaches are drawn to the smell of coffee too, so they’ll climb in after the grounds but won’t be able to get out since they’re not the greatest of swimmers.

-If you try any of these natural remedies over time but it doesn’t seem to make a difference, then it’s probably high-time to call a professional!
