Multi-read content how to paint interior brickwork

Interior brick walls can be a beautiful feature in a home, especially if you are lucky enough to live in an older home with original bricks. However, in some homes, brick walls can overwhelm a room and look a little dated. One of the easiest and most transformative things you can do to update an interior brick wall is to paint it…

If you are considering painting your brick walls in your home, you may not know which paint to use. Should I use primer paint or interior emulsion paint? What about primer and topcoat? If you’re not sure where to start, read our top tips to make interior tile painting easier!

  1. Before painting your brick wall

Before applying a coat of paint, check that your bricks are strong and sturdy. Any loose or flaking material should be removed and the grout repaired. If the brick wall is old (for example, if you live in an old building), you can consider a lime-based grout.

If the tiles are dusty to the touch, you should consider using something to stabilize them before painting. OursWall enamelis a breathable glaze designed to “stick” the surface of the tile and prevent dirt. It is especially appropriate in older homes where the bricks still need to breathe.

  1. Use a stain blocker

If there are signs of yellowing on the tile, a stain stopper will stop the stain from running off. This is not always necessary, but if it is the case with brick walls in your home, useIsolation primer- only on dry stains – to ensure your paintwork has a flawless finish.

  1. What paint finish should I use for interior brick walls?

We are often asked what is the best paint finish for interior brick walls. Although we have several paints in the Earthborn range which will work just fine, we always recommend usingclay painting.

While oursEcopro Silicate Masonry Paintis ideal foroutsidebrick wall, its two-part system forms a strong chemical bond with the masonry, so it is not really needed for interior brickwork. On the other hand, Claypaint is a thick cream paint that is very easy to apply. The high clay content ensures excellent coverage and breathability, with a super matte, flat finish.

Since bricks have more texture than regular plaster walls, it is often easier to paint Claypaint with a brush. Thinning the first coat with up to 2 parts water to 8 parts paint will help achieve an even finish. Apply another coat of undiluted paint over the entire layer.

  1. What about outerwear?

Claypaint does not require a topcoat, but if you feel your painted tiles need to be a little tougher, you can also use a watered-on Wall Glaze topcoat as a protective finish.

All products mentioned are available for purchase directly fromonline shop, including 100ml sample pots of Claypaint and Wall Glaze!

It has great light but the dark brown bricks and green floor just lowered the feel of the room.

So, I decided to see what a couple of coats of fresh paint would do…and the result is great.!
