Step 2 – Fix the Error

  • To create a guide for positioning the bricks, nail the wood to the wall. This will also support the tile until the glue sets.
  • Before driving nails into the wall, check to see if there are any pipes or cables hidden behind the wall.
  • Take a 50x25mm stick and nail it to the wall with the top edge aligned with the horizontal pencil line. Test it immediately with a mental level.
  • Drive the nail on another awl to make sure it lines up with the vertical line.
  • Leave the tip of the nail slightly protruding to facilitate its later removal.

Step 3 – Laying the Bricks

When installing tiles, be sure to align them so that the sides are flat, otherwise none of them will spoil the overall effect. Lift those that are too high or too low by adding or scraping off the adhesive as you move.

  1. Start at the corner formed by two walls. Use a trowel to sweep up some adhesive and press it onto the wall. Spread it in horizontal lines using a notched spatula. Hold the blade at a 45 degree angle. Avoid working more than one square meter at a time as the adhesive may begin to harden.
  2. Place the first brick in the corner between the two paving slabs and press the edges there and the whole brick firmly against the wall. Then add one brick on top and one on the side, visually space them out to start, and push them into the adhesive.
  3. Take tile spacers and place them in the corners between the bricks, adjusting the bricks as needed. You can either press them firmly and glue them on top, or place a foot of the spacer between the two bricks and remove it when the glue has set.
  4. Add more binder and tiles until you get to the point where you need to finish with the cut tile. Wipe off the adhesive as you wipe it with a damp cloth.
  5. Unscrew the nails and remove the vertical bar. Remove any hardened adhesive with the edge of a scraper. Continue this process for the rest of the wall and finish working with the cut bricks.

Step 4 – Paving the Inside Corners

  1. You can see that the corners between walls are rarely straight, so instead of cutting all edge bricks to the same size, measure each brick separately.
  2. Mark a brick to be cut by holding it over the entire last brick in the row, then place another brick in the wall – mark where it overlaps the image below with a marker. You can also take separate measurements at the top and bottom of the blank you need to fill.
  3. Once you have cut the path make sure it fits properly, you can make small adjustments using the square file. If you are covering only one wall, leave enough room for the corner grout joint.
  4. To apply glue to the back of the cut brick, use the narrow end of the slotted spreader. Press it so that it is on the same level as the next one.
  5. Once you’ve completed a wall, move on to the next tile.

Step 5 – Let the Brick Dry

Finally, allow the tile to dry for 48 hours – this ensures that the adhesive sticks to the cement skirting.
