Slip rings are attached to the armature winding in two (2 pole configuration), four (4 pole configuration) or more pieces. They rotate according to the armature. Finally, the carbon brushes stay in place and charge every part of the commutator.

When the armature is energized, the charged coil is pulled towards its oppositely charged permanent magnet. When the switch above also rotates, it switches from one brush connection to the next. When it reaches the next brush, it receives a polarity reversal and is now attracted to the other permanent magnet while being repelled by the same charge. Obviously, when the collector reaches the negative brush, it is now attracted by the positive permanent magnet. The commutator arrives just in time to make a connection with the positive brush and spins around the negative permanent magnet. The brushes are coupled in pairs, so a positive coil will pull towards the negative magnet while the negative coil will pull towards the positive magnet at the same time.

In a brushless motor, you lose the commutator and the brushes while gaining electronic control. Now the permanent magnets act as the rotor and spin inside while the stator is made up of fixed solenoid coils now outside. The controller powers each coil according to the load it needs to attract the permanent magnet.

In addition to moving the load electronically, the controller can also deliver a similar load against permanent magnets. Because like opposite charges, it will repel the permanent magnet. Now the propeller moves by a pull and a push.
