Multi-read content what to do about ants in my house

It is always a shocking situation when you wake up in the morning to find your kitchen or the whole house infested with ants. Especially if you’ve been living in the same house for decades and haven’t had any issues in the past. Ants are a very annoying pest in Australia. A few may be enough to completely seep into your kitchen and getting rid of them is no easy task. But why is this happening in the first place? Below we look at some of the common reasons why this can happen.

Ants in the house on the baseboards and wall angle

Source of food

Ants mainly explore to try to find food sources. Whenever ants suddenly invade, the most likely cause is that there is food for them somewhere in your house. Most ants are opportunistic foragers; They will eat anything. But they generally like sweets. Ants are attracted to a variety of food sources you may have, including:

  • Road
  • Syrup
  • honey
  • Juice
  • Me at
  • Fat
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Any waste, containers or packaging that has come into contact with these items

Once they find out where these food sources are, ant colonies can form long paths of thousands of ants to connect ant colonies to these food sources. They create a chemical trail by using their pheromones to leave a scent signature for other ants. Until this path is broken, they will continue.

Water source

Access to water is an important part of the survival of any colony. Even a small lake can quench an ant’s thirst for a long time. The more reliable the water source, the more the colony wants to keep your kitchen.

Be sure to clean up all spills quickly and completely. You should also regularly check common areas with high humidity like under sinks, refrigerators, windows, and doors to make sure you’re not creating an oasis waiting for those nasty invaders.

Time

Several studies have shown that there is a link between ant infestation and weather conditions. Infestation appears to be more likely to occur during periods of heavy rain or dry, hot, arid conditions. Why this is the case is not yet fully understood. The most likely explanation is that they avoid cold, damp conditions or that they have found a water source in your home during drier, warmer times.

Ants are generally relatively dormant during winter and colder conditions, while becoming more active during the warmer months of October through March. In cooler parts of Australia, such as Victoria, ant infestation is more common during the colder months because ants choose to congregate indoors.
