Sometimes, when installing the vanity in the bathroom, you may notice that there is a gap between it and the wall. This gap can be caused by the elongated legs of the vanity if it is old or the longer edge at the top of the vanity. In any case, it is possible to fill this void using a number of methods. We have researched these methods for you and in this article we will discuss them.

Ultimately, the amount of space needed to fill and your decorating preferences will determine the best method to use. Here are the most common ways to fill the gap between the vanity and the wall:

  • Method 1. Add putty to fill the gap
  • Method 2. Add the cut to white

There are a number of reasons why there could be a gap between your vanity and your wall. Consider the size of the space, the color of the vanity and the wall when deciding how to fill the void. This is especially true if you plan to add a cutout to this area. Let’s dive deeper into the options available.

Method for closing the gap between the vanity top and the wall

Even if you try to get your vanity against the bathroom wall, the smaller gaps can still be noticed. And sometimes gaps will occur after installing the vanity due to loose wall studs or shifting of the foundation.

Method 1 – Caulk the Gap

If the gap is relatively narrow, like half an inch thick or less, you can use latex or silicone to fill it. If this gap is wider, it is better to include a back reinforcement. This is a thin, foam-based tube that will help support the putty so it doesn’t form holes.

If you plan to installinsert a wire, be sure to put it inside the gap before covering it with putty. To do this, you may need to remove the vanity if it is already attached to the wall.

When gluing putty, be sure to cover the top edge of the vanity and the wall with painter’s tape so the glue only covers the gap and doesn’t spread across the surface. Also be sure to note the color of putty you want to use. It is better to combine with countertops or use colorless caulking.

Find this silicone sealant on Amazon.

When spreading putty in the open, be sure to use the seed as thinly as possible so that there are no gaps in the way. You can use a torch gun or paring knife to apply glue to the bar and inside the gap. Finally, remember to wait for the paint to dry before applying coats of paint or primer.

Method 2 – Cut out the space

If you have a larger void or want to add decorative touches to the space, you can also install crown molding over the space. There are several different versions to choose from if you decide to go with this option.

However, the most commonly used styles are rectangular and quadrilateral. This method is also relatively inexpensive, as pruning typically costs $0.50 to $0.75 per foot.

Before laying the surround, be sure to measure the width and length of the opening. It’s best to use construction glue to attach the trim instead of nails, as they can damage the vanity top. And if you’re going to paint the trim, be sure to polish and paint the trim first for a clean, smooth finish.

How to repair a gap between the wall and the furniture?

In most cases, you can use the same techniques to fill the gap between the wall and the vanity that you can use with the vanity and the wall. However, in addition to caulking and trim, you can also install side strips or lettering.

Scribble is a small, thin strip of mold that covers inconsistent wall or ceiling patches. It is often used when small decorative pieces are needed and it is less expensive. Cabinet side strips are small pieces of wood that are inserted between two cabinets so that they can fit snugly against the wall.

Does the dressing table coincide with the wall?

Yes. In most cases, the vanity will be designed to lean against the wall. However, if you have a custom, freestanding or special vanity, it will not need to be placed directly with it. Let’s discuss a few reasons why it is better to place the vanity directly against the wall.

Good drainage

It is best if the vanity sits directly against the wall as it will be less of a hassle to connect the plumbing behind it. It just makes the transition of water in and out of the plumbing easier.

Makes repairs easier

When it’s time to do new repair or installation work around the vanity, you’ll find it much easier with the vanity against the wall. And even if you decide to move the vanity, it will be easier to remove because it leans against the wall instead of fixing in a complicated way.

How much space is there between the side wall and the vanity?

Many interior designers and contractors will recommend wall spacing of 21 to 30 inches from the vanity. Typically, 21-inch spacing is regulated by local building codes for safety reasons.

How to fix a washbasin cabinet to the wall?

Each vanity will have its own set of instructions on how to attach it to the wall. However, here is an overview of a general procedure that you can apply to most vanities.

Things you will need:

  • pin finder
  • Cord
  • cordless drill
  • Electric saw
  • drywall knife
  • pencil or crayon
  • Grader

1. Mark the location of the dressing table

Start by measuring the vanity, then transfer those measurements to its place on the wall.

2. Mark the position of the studs on the wall

Next, take your stud finder and find two studs that will anchor the vanity. If there are no studs within reach of the edges of the vanity, you will need to craft some.

Read more details about the stud finder on Amazon.

To do this, mark the locations of the nails on the wall. Next, cut four 4×4 pieces to make rivets. Next, open up the drywall using your drywall saw or jigsaw and attach the studs to the inside of the drywall. When doing so, make sure the cuts are at least 6 inches thick.

Find this drywall knife on Amazon.

Be sure to drill pilot holes in the new studs before mounting them inside the wall. When framing the building, it is best to use nails at least 3 1/2 inches long.

These nails are long enough to go through studs and drywall. They will also help provide extra support so that the vanity does not fall off the wall due to its weight. Use your leveler to make sure the dots you mark are flat and not warped.

3. Mounting brackets and vanity

After securing the stud locations, take the brackets from the vanity hardware kit and drill them into the vanity. This kit should come with a set of instructions on how to do this. Once the brackets are attached, mount the vanity to the wall and attach the included cords.

end everything

We hope this article has helped illustrate how to fill the gap between the vanity and the wall. Before deciding on the best method to fill a gap, be sure to consider the size of the gap. For example, if the gap is more than 1/2 inch thick, it is best to fill the gap with decorations or putty, as the putty can eventually sink into the gap. However, if you decide to use putty, it is best to use a back brace to prevent this.
