Sawdust

You will buy it ready-made at the market or you can easily make it from small pieces of wood. A piece of 400 studs can cost you around $12 to $15. It has many sizes.

The best thing about “Piece of Dowel” is that it fits snugly into holes and holes in the wood and can be rolled up. How to fill a hole in the wood?

How to fill screw holes in wood?

Fill the screw holes

1. Clean the screw hole

There may be dust in the screw holes, so in this case the wood filler will not set well. Therefore, clean the holes with a small brush or blowers. Also clean the surface around the holes with sandpaper or a brush if necessary.

2. Fill the hole with Wood Filler

Use the tip of the scraper to pour the wood filler into the screw hole. Fill the screw hole level with the surface of the wood. Use a putty knife to push the spacer in so that the spacer is completely filled in the deepest hole.

The wood dries very quickly, it takes no more than 2-3 minutes to plug a hole. And don’t leave the wooden auxiliary box open for a long time.

If you’re using a sawdust-and-glue putty, do so in small amounts and repeat when you’re done.

Clean the filler area with a rag or steel blade, removing excess wood. Do this immediately or it may be a bit difficult to remove after it dries.

Let dry

It takes 2-6 hours for any wood filler to dry properly. By the way, the drying time depends on the size of the hole and the weather. It may take up to 8-10 hours on a wider or deeper area, although it may dry in less than 2 hours. In the summer it dries in about 2-3 hours, while the winner season takes 6-12 hours.

If you have enough time, let the wood filler dry completely. Or you can check for hours with a light press.

Sand and clean the surface

You may need to clean more than once with wood filler. After the wood putty has completely dried, there may be bumps on the surface of the wood. Smooth the surface of the wood with very smooth sandpaper.

Sanders can also be used with care. But don’t sand too much, we just need to bring the patch level. A 150 to 220 grit sandpaper will do the best job for this purpose.

Before proceeding to the next step, check the surface by passing it evenly so that the entire surface is even. If sandpaper is needed, start over.

Take your time to check all surfaces, because once you take the next step to paint or stain, it will be very difficult to go back.

Paint or stain the patched area

Now is the time to make the final touches. Once everything is in place, you can move on to the final step of painting or staining your favorite color.

Before painting or staining, wipe the patch area with a damp cloth. Thus, sanding dust is not left behind.

Keep these things in mind when filling screw holes?

  • Safety precautions Working with sawdust can cause allergies. So please use goggles and mask before you start working.
  • Only paint or bleach after the wood putty has completely dried. Otherwise, the color will not match.
  • To make a DIY wood filler, check the shelf life of the glue.

2 Part Fillers are so called because they include a small tube of hardener which you add to the wood filler and mix together. 2 Part Fillers set much quicker than 1 part fillers, which is great when you want to get the job done quickly.

Tip: if you’re using this filler for the first time, start with a small amount, until you become proficient at using it – as it sets in 5-10 minutes after mixing, leaving you with little time to apply it.

Sand the filler whilst it’s still relatively soft – within 15-30 minutes after mixing.

It’s a good idea to have a hoover handy, as there’s quite a lot of filler dust generated when you sand the filler.
