However, it is important to focus on cleaning. Improper maintenance will cause your grill to deteriorate over time. Doclean your top grillor broil as usual and you’ll get the most out of your cooking space.

Caring for the grill is not difficult. Every type of cookware requires some type of maintenance, and Blackstone is no different.

Blackstone ovens are exceptionally durable, but not invincible. Wash it carefully and reasonably, and you’ll keep it protected for years.

In this guide, I’ll show you how to clean your Blackstone grill and reduce the risk of wear, rust, and mildew.

Let’s start!

How to Season the Blackstone Grill

One of the best things you can do with baked goods before serving is seasoning. Don’t skimp on terminology here: it’s not the process of adding salt to its surface. Instead, this is where we apply a thin layer of oil to the grill surface. Then we heat the oil and let the oil solidify.

This creates a thin shield on its surface, which helps prevent food from sticking and protects it from the risk of rust or abrasion.

Hisa process we use for all of our grill smokers, and baked goods should be no different.

Simply fill the bucket with hot, soapy water and use a towel or rag to clean the grill surface. This will help remove any residue or dirt during storage.

Leave the grill outside to dry for about an hour.

Now is the time to start seasoning. Brush a thin layer of oil over the entire surface of the grill, using a rag to spread it as evenly as possible. Cover every inch of the grill, working in every area you can.

Increase the heat on the grill, to medium and high. Let it heat up and let the oil smoke.

When it begins to smoke, turn off the heat and let cool. Wash again with warm soapy water. Let dry completely.

Your grill is now ready to use.

How to Clean the Blackstone Grill

The best course of action is always prevention, so always try to clean the grill after each use.

Cleaning flat top grill with scraper

Blackstone has its own brand of scrapers that do the job well. They are quite cheap and I have found that for warranty reasons it is better to use brand name tools.Check it here.

Let the grill cool completely. This time you just need to use lukewarm water and wipe it with a cloth. Try to avoid using soapy water, as continued use will degrade the quality of the grill surface.

Allow to dry completely, then store in a cool, dry place.

Make sure you don’t put it away if it’s still wet. This is troublesome because the combination of water, air and steel will inevitably lead to rust.

Avoid using cleaning products such as detergents or cleaners in the oven. They are too corrosive and can cause your Blackstone to rust or deteriorate. Not only that, but they are also easy to leave behind chemical traces. It can even create some rather unpleasant flavors in your meat.

Also stay away from sanders. For obvious reasons, they can damage a wide variety of cookware, and your grill is no less. You may want to use these when handling burnt food, but stick to simple wipes. Believe me.

Blackstone Grill Maintenance Tips

Be sure to preheat the grill 10 minutes before each use. Not only does this make cooking easier, but it also reduces the risk of meat sticking to the grill surface when you try to remove it. This will make it easier for you to clean up after use.

For the same reason, use a good amount of oil when cooking. This will prevent the meat from sticking and will further protect your grill surface.

How to Deep Clean Your Blackstone Grill

While wiping down after each use can help prevent heavy wear and tear, you’ll need to do a thorough cleaning once in a while.

Grill cleanliness is important for more reasons than obsession. Any leftover grease can stick and cook for the next use. This can be dangerous as it will create more smoke and create unstable flares.

Another reason is that a dirty grill can lead to an unpleasant smell, which can seep into the meat and make it inedible.

Finally, mold can easily grow where food remains on the cooking surface. This is not only unpleasant but also dangerous.

As a general rule, I recommend deep cleaning your grill every few weeks.

Cleaning the Blackstone Grill Burner

The burner is located below the grill surface and is the heat source for your grill.

Most burners are protected by protective plates and also have a cooking surface above them. This makes them quite well protected against wear and tear. However, they are not immune to it and general use can still lead to a build up of grease and dirt.

So clean them.

Remove the top grill from your Blackstone’s body. There should be a latch that allows you to do this.

Remove the burner guards and simply soak them in warm water, then use a sponge to clean them. After rinsing, wipe them with a clean towel and let them dry.

How to Remove Rust from the Blackstone Grill

If rust begins to grow on the surface of your grill, don’t worry. We can do our best to remove most of them.

Heat the grill to melt the rust a bit. Apply a few drops of oil and lemon juice to the surface and use sandpaper to gently wipe away any rust.

To clean the rest of the grill, use a solution of water and vinegar. This is particularly effective in removing grease from surfaces. Use a sponge to clean.

How to Clean the Blackstone Grill

The best way to remove the wear and rust that builds up over time on your Blackstone grill!

You will need:

  • Scraper
  • Sponges
  • Cooking oil
  • Lemonade
  • Sandpaper

Tutorial

  • Allow blister to cool completely after use. Use warm water and a cloth to clean the grill. Avoid using soapy water or other abrasive cleaning products, such as oven cleaners or detergents. Let the grill dry completely in a cool, dry place.
  • Once dry, unlock the cooking surface to remove the grill surface and burner guard. Soak the burner guard in lukewarm water. Clean with a sponge. Wipe with a clean towel and let dry.
  • To remove rust, heat grill to medium. This will help the rust dissipate a bit. Turn off the fire. Put a few drops of cooking oil and lemon juice on the stove. Use sandpaper to gently wipe away any remaining rust.
  • To remove grease stains, mix warm water and a few drops of vinegar in a small bowl. Clean the grill with a sponge and solution.

I thought I would bring you along to show how easy it was to clean my Blackstone Griddle after cooking on it.

Some people put a thin layer of oil back on the griddle after cleaning it, I do not. I don’t even re-season my cast iron pans after cooking because I don’t feel it needs it. If my food starts to stick, I will re-season it.

Once my food gets done, I scrape my grill and if there are any stuck on foods, I can add a little water and scrape. I then take some paper towels and remove any excess grease or food.

Once the griddle is cool, I add some kosher salt and sprinkle it on the griddle. I have a bowl of very warm water and I use a sponge with a scrubby side and start scrubbing and wiping. I will do this a couple of times, get some clean water and wipe it up with a rag. Then I dry it with some paper towels.

We all are really loving my Blackstone Griddle. It doesn’t take food long at all to cook on it and I am finding it’s very easy to clean and doesn’t take long at all.

Thanks for all of your love and support. I really appreciate it so much.
