Multi-read content how to remove plastic push to connect fittings

In this guide, we’ll show you how to remove “spigot” pipe fittings.

These types of fittings “slip” the pipes together and create a tight seal.

Therefore, you will not be able to remove the “push-fit” accessories. In other words, if you try to loosen these connections with a wrench, they will keep spinning until your hand starts to tire.

Believe me. I was there.

An example of a brass push coupling. As you can see, this copper connector has a green plastic section on each side.

The fact that you can’t remove them can be confusing to DIY plumbers.

push fit copper

In the photo above you can see an old brass push-pull joint connecting two copper pipes. You may also see an indication that someone has tried to loosen this coupling using a wrench.

However, this will not work because there is a “claw” inside the connection that does not allow the hose to come out.

It should be noted that these accessories can also have the form of “bends” or “bends”.

An example of a bronze “elbow” from Pro Plumb. Other popular brands include Tectite and Shark Bite.

How to disassemble brass push fittings.

To remove these types of fittings, you will need to press down on the plastic part and then remove the pipe.

This plastic piece can be any color. In the examples above you can see that the plastic part of the connection is green.

Although you can press down on this plastic with your hands, it can be quite difficult and hurt your fingers.

The best tool to use is a proper push-pull “removal” tool. Most often, this tool will resemble the shape of a horseshoe.

You can usually find this type of removal tool at any hardware store that sells plumbing fixtures.

Note that the disassembly tool from your local hardware store may not be exactly the same as the one above. For example, some of them will be longer and some will have a groove or grip at the top.

How to use the push-fit removal tool.

Unfortunately, the instructions on the back of some of these tools can be poorly drawn. In fact, you might even find that there are no tutorials at all!

To use the removal tool, simply push it onto the pipe.

The removal tool should wrap around the pipe.

Here you can see that I linked the tool to burning. Now to loosen the gasket, I’m going to push it towards the plastic part.

If all goes as planned, the connector plastic will compress inside and release the copper tubing. At this point, I should be able to remove the pipe.

Use an adjustable wrench or ring spanner.

You can also try using a wrench to make this work.

As its name suggests, an adjustable wrench (or flat wrench) is a wrench that allows you to adjust the size of its “jaw”.

This will allow you to tighten the wrench around the pipe until it clicks into place.

Note that it should only fit the pipe loosely. In other words, you don’t have to squeeze the wrench so hard that it sweeps the pipe.

Once the key is in place, you can push it towards the coupling release mechanism.

The difference between an adjustable wrench and a box wrench.

It should be noted that you can also do this withthe headof a ring spanner. However, the ring key will need to be the correct size.
