Fill in any holes left in the roof. Use asphalt or silicone to fill the holes in your roof.

Note: Be sure to use a seat belt if working alone. If you are an amateur, it is best to hire a professional.

Satellite dishes can be very dangerous if not handled properly. If you don’t know what you’re doing on your roof, leave this project to the pros!

How To Remove Satellite Dish From Roof

The roofer’s challenge of placing satellite dishes on the roof

Rooftops have problems when you have a satellite dish on your roof. You will also have concerns that you cannot avoid in the future.

1. Your roofing system will suffer weather damage, especially when you have to remove itSatellite Antenafrom your roof.

Weather conditions will wear down your system components and lead to leaks, ruptures, or other damage that may be caused by these weaknesses.

2. Repairing your system will be more difficult – especially if you have a satellite dish on the roof.

3. This voids your roof warranty – as happens with any type of damage.

If you install a satellite dish on your roof, you should be aware that the warranty will no longer be valid because there is no way for the inspector to know where the damage came from.

How a satellite dish can damage your roof

Satellite dishes can be very dangerous for your roof. It may cause no harm, but often the results are much worse than you might expect. Here are a few things to watch out for.

1. Satellite dishes are designed to face the ground, or towards the ground. This means that if installed incorrectly, the drive will be tilted downward. Gravity acts against this downward force, but only to a certain extent.

If you have a satellite dish hanging from your roof without any support underneath, it has the potential to leave a very bad hole in your roof.

However, that’s not all! If you happen to have a satellite dish installed above your garage, this dish can put enough pressure on the ceiling of your garage, even causing your roof to collapse.

2. If you want to prevent your satellite dishes from leaving big dents in your garage ceiling, you need to make sure the satellite dishes are properly supported.

For the satellite dish to receive a clear signal, it must be elevated above all surrounding obstacles. The best way to do this is to use a poor quality pole that attaches to the side of your house or another structure on your property.

3. There is a better option than this, which is to build a wooden pillar. It will need to be attached to your home or property somehow, but if you plan it correctly and use strong enough materials, it will work just fine.

4. If you insist on using inexpensive metal brackets for your satellite dishes, be aware that they can get hot in the sun.

This can be particularly serious when you have a satellite dish directly above your garage, which is bound to be hotter than anywhere else in your premises.

5. If the metal in your satellite dish gets hot enough, it will melt through your roof.

It seems that this type of damage can only come from a severe fire, but the metal dish mount gets hot enough to cause similar damage from prolonged exposure to sunlight.

This means that if you have these dishes on your roof, you have no way of being sure that they will actually do what they are supposed to do – provide crystal clear TV reception.

The last point

Finally, be aware that there are other less dangerous ways to mount satellite dishes on your roof.

If you want clear television reception without worrying about the safety of your property or costly repairs in the future, be sure to hire a contractor to do the work for you.

0:26 STEP #1: Remove the existing Hex Bolts, normally there are 4-6 bolts and most times they are either one of two sizes 7/16″ or a 1/2″ size. You notice I prefer to use a drill with it’s proper socket rather than a ratchet, wrench or channel locks because it makes things a lot faster for you.

1:04 STEP # 2: Use your flat bar and remove the roofing nails from work area rows 1-4

Here is our work area feel free to take a screenshot, the golden arrows are pointing to the rows of shingles 1,2, and 3 we will be replacing these shingles because they are the ones with holes in them…Row number 4 is the row you have to take your time on and try not to damage, this row we will reuse so use your flat bar a carefully pull out the roofing nails, there should be 4-6 nails on this row make sure you get them all because it makes the next steps a lot easier for you.

2:09 STEP #3: Now that we have removed the nails from row number 4 the white arrow, it’s time to actually start removing the damaged shingles what you see me doing here is I am cutting each tab from rows 1,2,3, straight down forming a perfect square shape, the reason why I’m cutting these tabs off is because I want to be able to get only the needed shingles out like what you see me doing and not have to replace more than what I have to. You want to only replace the needed shingles when you make these cuts again If you see any nails in your way go ahead and pull them out with your flat bar it makes things a lot easier for you, don’t worry, in the next step we will be reinstalling these nails.

3:30 STEP #4: Start installing your new shingles, you always want to start on the opposite side of the roofs edge like what you see me doing. The reason why you want to start on the opposite side is because you want to continue the same stepping pattern from the existing roof all the way to the roof’s edge, giving you a nicely finished roof patch, continue the pattern as needed till the vertical roof’s edge. Use you 1-1/4 inch nails and install 4 nails per shingle on all your new shingles and reinstall all the nails you pulled out from your work area Rows 1-4 and all the stepping old to new roof tab areas.

5:13 STEP #5: Use your preferred roof seal, for asphalt shingles I would recommend you use a normal plastic roof cement. Focus more on the areas where the existing shingles connect to the new shingles make sure you seal all the old nail holes on the shingles that were pulled out from row 4 and the stepping shingle nail holes too. The reason why it’s very important to reseal the work area is to not only prevent roof leaks but to keep the shingles from blowing off in the next wind storm.
