Three buckets all in a line for easy mixing | Construction Pro TipsFAMILY MANAGER

Mix a series of floor levelers at the same time

fill allto pushwith the recommended amount of water before you start mixing. Keep buckets close together to reduce clutter when moving the mixer from bucket to bucket. Keep all bucket handles outward to make them easier to grip (every second counts).

After mixing all the scoops of the leveler, return to the first scoop and mix again for a few seconds to stir up the settled sand. Take out the blender and place it in the next bucket to be fired. After emptying each bucket, sprinkle the next bucket with sand before pulling it out.

NOTE: The 5 gallon bucket is not large enough for self-leveling mixers. Get as many 6-gallon buckets as you can.

Popular questions about how to use leveling compound

How do you use a levelling compound?

What do you use to spread self-leveling compound?

Self-leveling concrete is a cementitious mixture much like concrete. But unlike concrete, it flows easier and sets up much faster. The product is mixed with water, pumped or poured into place and spread evenly with a gauge rake. Once it’s spread out, it continues to flow evenly and levels itself out.

How long does it take self-leveling compound to set?

Most concrete floor levelling compounds dry quickly, so they can be walked on after just 4 hours, drying fully after 24 hours. In about 6 hours, it may be completely hardened and ready for use, depending on the flooring material being installed on top. No special curing steps are required.

How deep can you use self-leveling compound?

Suitable for use on most common subfloors such as sand/cement screeds or concrete. It has high flow properties making it ideal for smoothing. It can be laid up to 6mm in depth.

Do I need to prime floor before self-levelling?

Wood floors need to be primed before covering them with self leveler. The floor will be covered with water-saturated leveler, which will cause the wood to swell. It will shrink back down when it dries, which could cause cracks in the underlayment and tiles above. The primer prevents the wood from absorbing water.

Do I need to PVA before self-levelling?

No to the PVA, but wet the floor first before using the self leveling compound, be warned it’s not self leveling you have to trowel it level.

Can you put a second coat of self-leveling compound?

Does self-leveling concrete crack?

A DIY self-levelling cement job might look good for a few months, maybe even a couple years. But if it’s not done properly, eventually it can start to crack. If your floors move or bounce, that cement can crack, too.

Can you pour self-leveling concrete over wood?

If you’ve got a plywood subfloor, like many buildings do, you can leave it in place and apply self-leveling concrete directly on top of it. Once the plywood subfloor is covered, just apply the finish you want to achieve the desired look.

When can you walk on self leveler?

Do not walk on the resurfaced floor until it has fully gained sufficient strength. This is approximately 1 to 2 days for the Normal Set product or 2 to 4 hours for the Fast Set product, depending on surrounding conditions. No special curing steps are required.

Can you tile straight onto self leveling compound?

Let the Concrete Leveller Dry

Most concrete floor levelling compounds dry quickly, so they can be walked on after just 4 hours, drying fully after 24 hours. You can then install other types of flooring on top of concrete flooring after this stage.
