2nd step

The best way to clean mattress stains depends on the type of stain. Target each stain with the proper cleaning technique.

  • Urine, sweat and vomit:
  • These bodily fluids are most likely responsible for the mess on the mattress. Unfortunately, you can’t soak a mattress like you can soak your clothes; instead, you should use less liquid, along with a spray bottle, to avoid turning slow-drying mattresses into moist conditions ideal for mold and mildew growth (yuck!). First, gently spray the stained area with plain water until only moisture remains. Then mix one cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with three tablespoons of baking soda and a few drops
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • in a spray bottle. Spray this solution on the stain and brush gently with a soft brush or an old toothbrush until the stain disappears. Finally, spray cool water on the cleaned area and blot with an absorbent towel.
  • Blood:
  • Remove the blood using the technique above, making sure the water and cleaning solution are even.
  • cold
  • (Hot will refresh the stain!). Place the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda solution in the refrigerator for about an hour after mixing to lower the temperature. You may need to use the additional brushing action above
  • blood spots
  • and it may be necessary to repeat the process several times. Blot excess liquid with a clean, absorbent towel.
  • Food and drink stains:
  • For coffee, red wine or other food and beverage colorings, mix one part
  • washing powder
  • , one part vinegar and 10 parts water in a spray bottle. Brush the stain and gently scrub the stain with a toothbrush or toothbrush. The retention time is 10 to 15 minutes for the solution. Then blot with a damp towel or
  • sponges
  • for removing stains and cleaning solutions. Rinse the towel/sponge and continue to dab as needed. Then pat dry with an absorbent towel to remove excess liquid.

Step 3

To deodorize the mattress, sprinkle generously on the cleaned areabaking soda. This will help remove unpleasant odors and absorb remaining moisture.

Let the pillow sit for up to 24 hours, if possible, so it can dry completely (plan to spread it out on the couch or another bedroom that night). Or if time is of the essence, you can use a fan orhair dryeron some cool settings to speed things up.

Step 4

Oncemattresscompletely dry, suck up the baking soda and make the bed. You’ll have peace of mind knowing your mattress is stain-free and fresh chrysanthemums!

Hello cleaners anonymous!

I am trying something new – cleaning an old mattress (or two)! I have always been afraid to tackle this type of cleaning because I never knew how to get rid of stains on a mattress. It seems that the stains only grow in size when you try to spot clean them. So once and for all I am going to solve this life-long mystery (well, adult-long mystery). Get ready for some scrubbing action and magic of simple ingredients!

Not to spoil the surprise but here is what I used: 1 cup water, 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide (3%), 1 big table spoon of baking soda, and 1 table spoon of dishwashing liquid. The measurements are approximate. If you see it too bubbly, then reduce dishwashing liquid. If you think you want to bleach the stain more/less, then adjust peroxide by 1/2 cup more/less.
