How to get dry spray foam from your hands

Removing dried moss from hands and skin after maintenance, home repairs and other tasks isn’t as difficult as most people think. In fact, there are several different methods for removing dried spray foam from your hands and skin. So don’t feel bad if you end up with dry foam on your skin. The foam will stick to your hands and arms, but it’s unlikely to cause significant damage as long as you remove it quickly. Here’s how.

Act quickly with tissues or disposable cloths

Wipe the spray foam insulation off the skin as soon as possible. Ideally, you’ll start wiping away the foam while it’s still damp. You can wipe off the foam with a disposable cloth or paper towel. Throw away the cloth or towel after use. The next step is to apply acetone to the acne affected skin. You probably have acetone at home as a nail polish remover. However, be sure to take a good look at the composition of your nail polish to make sure it does contain acetone.

The acetone begins to melt into a liquid when it touches the wet foam, making it easier to wipe away the skin. However, acetone will strip the skin of oils, causing chafing and irritation unless you moisturize it. The next step is to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Don’t forget to apply some hand cream to your hands or other areas of skin to mix in the oil lost when applying acetone.

A pumice stone will also do the trick.

If you have a pumice stone handy, it will help remove the dried spray from your skin. Rub the pumice stone along the dried moss to remove as much of the moss as possible. This is similar to the process of rubbing a pumice stone on the heel callus. Wash hands with warm water and soap. Add kerosene or lanolin to the mentioned area. Cover the skin with plastic cling film for one hour. After an hour, remove the plastic wrap. Wash affected skin with warm water and soap, add mineral oil/lanolin, and your skin should look normal.

What happens if the Foam Spray dries on the skin?

If you wait too long, the spray will dry out on the skin. The foam will form a hard blob. However, it is possible to remove the foam after it has solidified on the skin. You can remove the hard foam from the skin, although it will bring in a few hairs. If there is a lot of hair stuck in the dried spray, break it into smaller sections or shave it off. However, if the foam persists after these efforts, apply kerosene to the area, let sit for an hour and rinse with warm water and soap.

Use an exfoliating soap

Using an exfoliating soap will make it easier to remove pumice from the hands or skin. Exfoliating soaps contain exfoliating particles similar to sand. This soap will remove dead skin on the top surface, including suds residue.

What about oil and baking soda?

Some DIYers say using baking soda and oil works. Specifically, canola or vegetable oil will help remove dried aerosols from your hands or skin. Cover affected skin with oil. Add baking soda and scrub the area with oil and baking soda for three minutes. Rinse this mixture off and you will find that most, if not all, of the spray-dried foam has been removed.

glove method

If you have a set of vinyl or rubber gloves around the house, they will come in very handy in removing spray foam from your hands or skin. Half fill the glove with lukewarm water. Add some dish soap. Clean your hands. Wet your hands and slip them into the water and wear gloves with dish soap.

Add the bandage to the glove at the wrist. The bandage should be so tight that it won’t leak, but so loose that circulation won’t rupture your wrist. Keep the gloves on your hands for at least an hour. After an hour, remove your gloves and wash your hands again. Your hands will look like prunes, but the spray-dried foam should be discarded.

There is always the possibility of waiting

If you don’t have any of the products mentioned above, you have the option of waiting for it to come out. The waiting technique takes patience but it will work. Just wait for the insulation to dissipate on its own. Although this approach is time consuming and not easy, it costs nothing and will be effective after a few days. Let the spray dry for a few days to let your skin fall off naturally and you can move on easily.
