Multi-read content how to drill through concrete block

Do you want to decorate your old dilapidated wall with an aesthetic painting on it? Whether you want to hang pictures, a calendar, a TV, or anything else in your home, the first thing you need to do is drill it. But, if you are not a professional driller, you might be wondering how to drill cinder blocks?

Drilling in the mud blocknot something where you have to seek professional assistance and pay them your precious coins. With the right tools and the right process, you are enough on your own to do the job like a drilling enthusiast. In this article, you will get a step by step process to explore blocks.

What is the cinder block?

Cement tile is a large cell-shaped brick, most often used for interior walls and alcove walls.

These bricks are lightweight and fairly easy to maintain due to the hollow space inside and also allow you to quickly build a wall. Due to the hollow structure inside, it is better insulation than a solid brick wall.

Materials you need to drill through cinder blocks

To drill a cinder block, you will need the following materials:

1. Standard drills such asconcrete or masonry bit

2. Hammer drill orcordless drillwith hammer function

3. Plug and screw

To make your work faster and easier, you’d better use a rotary hammer drill. However, if you’re using a cordless drill, at least make sure it has a hammer function. Concrete masonry drill bits are most effective when working with hammer drills. And don’t forget to bring plugs andscrewsalso.

Position before drilling

Before you start drilling your block wall, first prepare the necessary materials according to their location. If you only need to drill a hole or two for a small project, a regular cordless drill is enough to get the job done. But if you are going to be drilling for a larger project, then a hammer drill should be your choice.

Whether you own a hammer drill or borrow one from someone you know, the next thing you need to do is learn about your tool. Be sure to read the user manual to know all the buttons and what the controls are for. Once you have a good understanding of your tool, install the standard concrete drill bit required.

You may need to set the drill depth to the point where you want to drill the hole. Some drills come with this depth control rod while others do not. If it’s missing, you can mark the spot with a pencil or tape. Now hold the drill as if holding a pistol and place your index finger on the trigger.

If all this is done, you are ready to start the final fight with cinder blocks.

Drilling process

To begin your drilling work, first trace your tailings with a pencil. When doing so, avoid the edges and center points of the cinder block as they will require a lot of force and time to break through due to their solid construction. Select the marker in the middle of the edge and in the center where it is hollow inside.

Now press the bit firmly into the marked position and press the trigger button on your hammer drill. If you’re using a cordless type, turn on hammer mode, then start drilling to get the first pilot hole. At first the speed should be low until you drill a pilot hole in the required surface.

Once you’ve made that main hole, increase the speed and continue drilling firmly without applying too much force. Over time, increase speed and force as needed until the hole reaches your depth mark.

Remember to take the drill out and put it back in the hole periodically every ten to twenty seconds. This will help you remove the dust from that particular hole. Once you have finished drilling the required holes, you can place the screws and dowels ready to hang whatever you want here.

Necessary precautions

You must wear the necessary safety equipment, including a respirator, goggles, safety gloves and heavy pants, etc. Before starting drilling work, do not forget to cover nearby doors and windows. If something goes wrong while drilling, immediately turn off the machine and connect the power.

Last word

Drilling in the mud blocks is quite a useful and convenient technique. This allows you to easily hang pictures, put up shelves, install lights and more. We believe this article has given you the right information and techniques you need for your first drilling experience.

They are manufactured with special threads that will thread into a predrilled hole in masonry material, such as concrete, concrete block, and brick. These screws embed into the material by “tapping” the threads through the material surrounding the hole.

What’s the difference between a hammer drill and a regular drill?

The only difference you can see is that one is called a hammer drill, or a hammer drill driver to be more precise. In fact, looking closely at the hammer drill vs drill comparison reveals that these two tools remain very similar. In fact, many look identical except for the internal hammering mechanism.

How To Drill a Hole through a block, brick or concrete wall – Drilling holes with an SDS hammer drill.

Here I show Drilling a hole through a concrete cavity wall. This is in preparation for an outside tap installation, but is equally useful when running cables or other pipes through external concrete masonry walls. This particular application will be used to run a 15mm copper pipe from one side of the wall to the other, this will be for an outdoor tap installation.

After concrete wall drilling is complete, I go on to show how to sleeve or line the hole which provides protection for the pipe being run through the newly drilled hole. I show the different types of sleeve that can be used. In this video I show how you can use either 22mm copper pipe or in this case, 21.5mm pvc overflow pipe which is preferred for this particular application.

Drilling through the external brick or block walls of a house can be quite daunting. Hopefully in this video, I can show you how relatively simple it is, when using the correct tools and techniques.
