The 2-way switch acts as 2 switches that can control a single device. This is switch 2 for a device. You can ask here why we want or need 2 switches for a device when we have one.
Two-way switches are often used for stairway lightning protection systems and other lightning protection systems where we want to control devices from two different locations. Suppose you are on the stairs and you want to turn on the light above the stairs, then using a 2-way switch, you can turn on/off the same light in two different areas or locations. Here you can switch on the stair light from the top of the stairs or from the bottom of the stairs using a two-way switch. You can use the two-way switch on the stairs, in the garage or in the garden, where you can turn on the garden lights in the garden or inside the hallway or indoors.
Figure 1: Connecting the two-way switch
As you can see in the image below, the common wire running in the middle is the common pin of both switches and the line pins L1 and L2 on both switches carry current from the power supply. When the plunger of the first switch goes down, it makes a connection to the wire then on the other side of the second switch in the up position, makes contact with the bulb wire and forms a circuit nearby to turn on the bulb. Now suppose if we move the switch plunger up, it will stop connecting even though the first switch plunger is in the up position, so the light connection is open and therefore the light is extinct.
Now let’s talk about the second situation if the plunger of the second switch moves up it connects the live wire of the light bulb and while the plunger of the first switch is in the down position contact the wire so that the light bulb can turn on, if the second switch dips then disconnects the wire from the bulb and thus causes an open circuit and therefore the bulb goes out so the direction of switch 2 is used to turn on/off the bulb while the two switches are located in completely different places.

Difference Between 2 Way Switch and 1 Way Switch
Two-way switches cost more and require more materials, components, and wiring than one-way switches. The two-way switch has the advantage that you can control the device from two different places. A two-way switch uses 2 switches while a one-way switch uses 1 switch and the wiring is simple while the wiring of a 2-way switch is complicated.
The main difference between two-way switch is different from one-way switch that it can mark as on or off while two-way switch depends on turning on and off the switches present in other places.
One-way switches are used in a small area and a small room, while two-way switches are used in stairs, hallways or larger areas.

DPST (double pole, single throw)
DPDT (double pole double throw)
What is a 3 way switch used for?
What is a 3-way switch? A 3-way switch is one that allows you to control a ceiling light (or other electrical fixture) from two separate locations. Common scenarios would be 3-way switches located at both the top and bottom of a stairway, or having 3-way switches next to doors in a room with two entry points.
Can I use a 3-way switch as a 2 way?
Yes, you can use 3-way (UK: 2-way) as 2-way (UK: 1-way) switches. It will work fine. Simply make sure the screws are different colors; you want the common terminal and one of the messengers; not both messengers.
How can you tell if a switch is 4 way or 3-way?
A three-way switch has three terminals; a four-way has four. These control a light from two or three switch locations, such as at the top and bottom of a stairwell, at either end of a hallway, or in a large room with multiple entrances.
Can you replace a two-way switch with a three-way switch?
A three-way switch is designed to work in tandem with another three-way switch to allow you to control a fixture from two different locations. For this reason, it doesn’t have on/off markings because it can turn off the power when it is both up and down, depending on the orientation of the other switch.

How to wire 2 way light switch, in this video we explain how two way switching works to connect a light fitting which is controlled with two light switches. We look at the EU colour coding wires and explain the different ways to connect the lighting circuit.
This video shows how to wire a two way light switching circuit, or a two way lighting circuit. I believe this is called a three way switching circuit in some countries. This video shows how to change a one way lighting circuit into a two way lighting circuit and also includes schematic diagrams of a basic lighting circuit and a schematic drawing of a two way switching circuit. When wiring a two way lighting circuit you will need two – two way light switches as well as some three core and earth cable to use as a strapper.
